About Brandon

I am a native of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, follower of Jesus, husband, father, son, Star Wars fanatic and lover of the Miami Hurricanes, Heat and Dolphins!

My mother; Linda Sutton, is my Shero. I never met a more thoughtful and loving person. She was a public educator for thirty-seven years and her commitment to education and community inspired me to dedicate my life to public service.

I received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) in 2008, and a Masters of Applied Social Science Degree from FAMU in 2009. In 2010, I moved to the Washington D.C. metropolitan area to pursue my dreams of working in public service. While in D.C., I served as the Program Coordinator at Ascend at the Aspen Institute. Ascend is a policy program and national hub for breakthrough ideas and collaborations that move children and their parents toward educational success and economic security. Prior to working at Ascend, I served as a Legislative Aide at the National Community Action Foundation and as an intern for Congressman David Scott. I moved back to Fort Lauderdale in 2015, where I decided to follow in my mother’s footsteps and become an educator. Additionally; I am the Founder and President of the Sutton Family Foundation, an educational nonprofit with the goal of providing students with the academic tools they need to become outstanding scholars and productive citizens.

In 2016, I was fortunate enough to marry my beautiful wife and best friend; Vauneeka Sutton, and we welcomed our first child in the world; Lincoln Sutton, on March 23rd, 2017.

  1. Florida A&M! I’m a (near) native Floridian – always good to see one more person from this state who is not either politically underinformed, and/or a Republican (these two do tend to go hand in hand, I think). Looks like you have some good info here. Consider yourself followed. šŸ™‚
